By east coast standards, Sugarloaf is a big resort and a highly rated one that is well worth taking the time to visit. Located around two and a half hours drive time from Portland, this is a relatively easy place to get to and one could quite easily spend a week riding here on a mountain that has the only treeless summit with lift access in the east.
Another notable point is that unlike many other east coast resorts, Sugarloaf manages a longer season than many other east coast destinations as the resort is able to keep hold of its snow very well. What’s more, they back up their real snow with snowmaking facilities that cover almost 94% of the mountain. In truth this is a mountain that will mainly appeal to freeriders and carvers. The 131 well groomed and well set out runs offer some very challenging runs with the option to ride down some extreme steeps and fast double diamond black trails.
