Stratton

Stratton is generally recognised as the home of snowboarding, well at least on the east coast. A decent-sized resort, Stratton was one of the first areas in the US to give snowboarders access to its mountain. It is also noted for not only being the original home and test area for Jake Burton and his Burton Snowboards, but also as the place where America's first pro-snowboard school was set up and the home to the world's longest running snowboard competition, The US Open, which uses what is reputed to be the best halfpipe on the planet.

The Green Mountain Race Series also comes to Stratton for a couple of events. Midweek you are up and down the mountain in a flash, but at the weekend, lift queues appear as everybody from New York and Boston arrive en-mass. However, with 40 years history as a ski resort, the management know how to keep things moving along to everyone?s satisfaction. The future for Stratton also looks good, with a multi million dollar expansion plan.

Riding here will suite everyone although riders who look for extreme or big cliff jumps may be a little disappointed. Still this is a resort that has a good annual snow record, and one which offers snowmaking facilities covering over 82% of the terrain on offer.
