June Mountain / Photo: June Mountain
June Mountain is located in the Eastern High Sierra, 17 miles north of its sister resort Mammoth. Over the past few seasons the resort has had a bit of a personality issue, but it's now firmly decided that a family resort is the way to go, however the mountain hasn't changed shape and te slopes still have a lot to offer everyone no matter what your standard is.
Because of the small size of June it doesn't have package tour status and it has a minimal number of ski schools, making the place a bit of a secret for those in the know and leaving you without lift queues even in peak periods. This all makes the place sound a bit like something resembling heaven. Having said that, June can't offer the total variability of the decent larger resorts. Nevertheless, if you don't mind riding the odd run more than once and having to take one foot out along some of the flat green runs, you will get a lot out of the relaxed attitude here, away from the big resort experience.
If you've got a young family, then kids under 12 get to ride for free; no many resorts can say that.
