Jackson Hole Snowboarder / Jackson Hole
Introduction
Jackson Hole is a truly all American resort and comes with cowboys, saloon bars and high peaks. Not the typical tree-lined rolling mountains found in a lot of US resorts, Jackson is a high peaked mountain resort that is located in a large valley some 10-40 miles wide and 50 miles long. At the base of the slopes is a small village called Teton, 10miles away from the main town of Jackson Hole, which has the much smaller resort of Snow King rising out of it. Jackson Hole is a resort that will appeal to snowboarders that like a challenge.
Much of the terrain is rated black, offering some steep sections with trees and long chutes. Back country riding is also a major option as there are vast amounts of terrain to check out. To get the best of it, there are a number of specialist backcountry tour operators, offering daily tours with prices starting at around $300.
For the start of the 2006/7 season the aeriel tram that took you to the top of Rendezvous Mountain will no longer be there, but is set to be replaced for 2008/9.
