Bretton Woods Ski Area

Bretton Woods lies 165 miles north of Boston and 100 miles north of Manchester and claims to be the largest resort in New Hampshire. However, claiming to be the biggest at something is not always an indicator of how good you are. What you have here is a respectable mountain that by east coast standards is fairly decent. Some 93 runs are hacked out of dense trees that cover the whole mountain from the summit to base.

The slopes, which are in view of Mt Washington, are currently spread out over two peaks, Mt Rosebrook and West Mountain with the trails all working their way back down into one main base area. Soon to open will be another ridable area, that of Mt Stickney. What Bretton seems to be about to the casual observer, is a place that likes to keep things simple and one that attracts a lot of family ski groups. Constantly expanding, this is a resort that is best suited to beginners and intermediate carvers although freeriders who like easy slopes with trees will also fair well here.

In recent years major expansion plans have lead to the area almost doubling in size with the opening of the West Mountain which is a nice area for advanced riders who like to shred tight trees. All the trails and lifts connect up well and getting around the three slope faces can be done with ease. But that said, riders who prefer steep trails that last more than a few turns, may find that anything more than a couple of days on these slopes may become a bit tedious. On the other hand, a 10 year old kid taking their first snowboard trip with their parents will enjoy a weeks stay.
