Bear Mountain Snowboarder / Bear Mountain
Bear Mountain Valley is home to two mountain resorts, Big Bear and Snow Summit. Both play host to numerous top snowboarding events including the Annual Board Aid Festival at Snow Summit. As a rule, resorts’ marketing slogans are trite and meaningless, but Bear Mountain’s billing as a ‘Good Time’ place is quite accurate. Anyone who has ridden the parks or pipes, and afterwards sat in the sun on the outdoor deck for lunch, would be hard-pressed to dispute this claim. Part of the deck’s inherent allure is the fact that riders need a place to kick back after spending time on Bear’s slopes, where vertical is the name of the game. The high speed quad, Big Bear Express, reaches the top of Goldmine Mountain in about seven minutes, where you can ride the Claim Jumper trail to notch up over 500 vertical metres. Bear Mountain offers riding for all abilities, from carving to freestyle and all species in-between. Big Bear is a black diamond bliss but also okay for intermediates.
