An excellent resort with great freeriding that will please freeriders of all levels. There is a high level of good local facilities within easy reach of the slopes.
Off the slopes you will find all the creature comforts required to make your stay a pleasant one and although not extensive, local services are very good. There is a good choice of lodging and eating joints conveniently located either at the base of the slopes or in the small town of Gridwood, a few minutes away by shuttle bus. The area also boasts an array of local activities ranging from river rafting, to para -gliding on skis or a board. You can even do a cruise around some of the glaciers or try your hand at salmon fishing.
Food options
Alaska my not be world renowned for its culinary skills, however, the choice and quality of restaurants along with fast-food outlets is particularly good in and around the resort. You can pig out on fine cajun food at Double Dusky's Inn, or sample some well-prepared sea food at Simon's Saloon. The Bake Shop is a local's favourite for quick snacks, whilst the Teppanyaki Katsura offers traditional Japanese nosh, but at a price.
Accommodation
You can lodge at the base of the slopes, most notably in the Westin Alyeska Prince Hotel which is located just yards from the cable car's base station. Around Gridwood there's a good selection of condos and B&B's, but it's not the cheapest place to stay. The cheaper option is to lodge in Anchorage, which has a far bigger selection.
Nightlife
Night-life around Gridwood is somewhat tame, but nevertheless not bad. There is a decent selection of laid back hangouts. The Sitzmark and Aurora bars are well visited and lively spots. But if you want some real late night action, check out what's going down 40 miles away in Anchorage, where you are able to party hard.
