The Nax Region may sometimes get overshadowed by its bigger Valais siblings but trust us it's a little hidden gem.

The Nax Region may not be the first name on your check list when visiting the world class Valais Wallis region, with big hitters like Verbier and Crans Montana and Nendaz all hogging the limelight, Nax Region may sometimes get overshadowed by its bigger siblings but trust us it's a little gem.
Located in the canton of Valais 'Val d'Hérens' and at 1300 metres Nax region consists of the villages of Nax, Mase and Vernamiège and is known locally as ‘Balcony of the Sky’ due to the spectacular views and blue skies the region offers. The traditional Swiss village is only 20 minutes from the city of Sion and is a breeze to get too via the excellent bus service.
Nax Region has already developed a reputation amongst freeriders and split boarders for its easy access to the off piste areas. The small ski area itself is also an ideal place to head for a few days. With hardly any lift queues it makes for a relaxing change away from the crowds of larger resorts. The resort is well serviced by a small selection of chairs and poma lifts that quickly whisk you up to the pristine pistes and spectacular scenery.
Riding wise the area would best suit intermediate riders who will find a mixture of red, blue and the occasional black piste thrown in for good measure . Accommodation is normally found in Nax town centre which is located lower down the valley than the resort and it is a delight to wander round with traditional architecture and a beautiful church at its centre piece. In town there are a few restaurants and a little shop these all serve local meats, cheeses, wines and beers from the area. All these elements mixed together make the Nax Region a great place to visit even if only for a few days.
