Leysin

Being such a spread out place means that depending on where you?re booked into, you could end up doing a lot of hard walking, unless you have a car. Around the town, life is very easy going with a lot of Americans hanging around due to the American colleges based here. Local services are basic but acceptable, offering a well located sports centre equipped with a swimming pool and indoor tennis and squash courts. If you happen to speak the language (French and German) you could even while away your evening at the cinema. Anyone who fancies a skate can check out the ramps down in Aigle, about 40 minutes away, however there's plenty of street in Leysin which the locals will happily share with you. Plenty of restaurants to choose from, but a few of them are tucked away so you will need to study your tourist guide to search them all out. Generally, prices are in the middle to high bracket but affordable food is available, especially if you check out the offerings at the cool bunk house called Club Vagabound which is located away up on the back road. The town also has a couple of cheap pizza restaurants. The options for a bed range from a classy hotel to the normal array of pensions along the main high street. One of the best options is the really cool bunk house called The Vagabond, which offers cheap nightly rates and has a cool bar. Alternatively, Chalet Ermina is a really good bed and breakfast place and great value. Night-life in Leysin is just as it should be, nothing major but plenty going down with a lively crowd that's always ready to party. The partying is aided by a lot of young American students (none of whom can drink anything like the amounts the Europeans sup). The main spots are Club Vagabound, although on Saturday nights it gets way too busy, and Top Pub which is much quieter.
