Want to stay in the Eagles Nest? Well Vogel’s the place for you. This great little resort is accessed only by cable car or by a crack team of WWII nutters. High above the beautiful Lake Bohinj sits the little known resort of Vogel; which has varied terrain, good off piste access, a park with some stupidly massive hits, tree runs, mountain cafes, cheap accommodation, and some of the oldest chair lifts you’ll ever see outside of Scotland. The newest, a 2003 cable car, takes you up the imposing cliffs from the small car park at the lake side. Other than a small bar, and a shop, there’s nothing at the base of any interest. At the top of the cable car you have the Ski Hotel Vogel, which is amazingly perched on the cliffs edge (the eagles nest). From here there’s access to some incredibly slow chair lifts to a central station which is where the fun starts. There’s lots of scope here for off piste lovers and also plenty of good pisted terrain with a long run all the way back down to the cable car base.
