The Lecht is by far the smallest resort in Scotland, however, this is also one of the friendliest and quite simply the best beginner's resort.

Good affordable local facilities in Tomintoul, 15 minutes away.
There is nowhere to stay on the mountain and Huntly is probably the nearest town where there are a few B&Bs on offer, the Huntly Arms hotel will do you a decent B&B from £29 pp (tel 0871 376 9900). You could try the small but well maintained Tomintoul youth hostel, £13.50 for a budget bed (tel 0870 155 2255) or the Gelnavon hotel at £25 pp B&B (tel 01807 580 218). But your best bet is to stay in or around Aviemore (The Lecht is about a 30/40 minute drive away) and at least you will have access to some good restaurants and pubs (see the Aviemore accomodation guide for details).
There is nothing on or near the mountain and the nearest town with any signs of life nearby is Aviemore (about a 30/40 minute drive away).
