Oppdal is situated 93 miles south of the town of Trondheim, where three valleys (originating in different parts of the country) meet. The resort is divided into four main areas, providing something for all riders with some of the best off-piste Norway has to offer. The snowboard scene is expanding in Oppdal (as everywhere else in the world) and most weekends the place is 'invaded' by boarders from the city of Trondheim. During the usual winter holiday period, the population doubles, so if you're not particularly fond of lines and crowds, try to stay clear. As one of Norway's biggest areas, Oppdal will appeal (as with much of this country) to easy going, piste loving freeriders. The 80 km of piste are for beginners mainly as there's nothing for advanced riders to get too excited about, and even intermediates will soon tire of the place. At the top of Vangslia there's a black run, but the mountain flattens out at the bottom making it a short and uneventful trail, unless you're a beginner joining at the top of lift A, where it becomes an excellent easy area.
