Freestyle Snowboard World Cup Gets Underway!
Today, 4th December marks the opening of the 2014/15 FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Cup seasons with the first halfpipe events in Copper Mountain (USA).
Copper Mountain and its 22-foot halfpipe have been a flagship event on the World Cup tour for the last two years and mark a highly anticipated return of some of the world's finest talents to compete for this winter's first World Cup points.
Four events, two in Freestyle and two in Snowboard are on the schedule this weekend featuring many of the shining talents of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games including Snowboard halfpipe Olympic Champion Kaitlyn Farrington (USA) and the youngest Olympic bronze medallist in history, Taku Hiraoka (JPN). Meanwhile, 5th and 6th December marks the start of the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup season in Nakiska (CAN).
In aerials, the season begins the same days in Ruka (FIN), as has become a tradition, whilst moguls will visit the Finnish resort for its season opener in dual moguls on 13th December. In Snowboarding, the cross opener scheduled for 18th -19th December in Montafon (AUT), while the Alpine race boarders kick off their season in Carezza (ITA) on 13th December. Istanbul (TUR) is set to provide a major historic highlight on the Snowboard calendar with a big air when the fifth-largest city in the world by population, will host the first-ever FIS Snowboard World Cup on Turkish soil.
