Europe’s best family ski hotels
Little rippers in tow? These mountain hotels serve families fantastically from their locations (snowball’s throw from lifts, lessons and the like) to their services (looks like spa treatments for sprogs are the norm these days…)
Aracuria, La Plagne
Aracuria’s location alone suits families swimmingly: the ESF (snowboard lessons for ages 8+) is right next to the hotel’s boot room, with nursery slopes just a couple of minutes’ walk away. Treats continue indoors - young ‘uns have their own fun pool, a ball pond, even their own spa treatment menu to pick from (fruit facials anyone?). There’s also a children’s play area, arcade zone for teens, cartoon cinema and little library nook for kids who’ve caught the book bug / have school work to do. Perks for parents include the bar, inches from the kid’s areas so you can keep an eye on them with a beer in hand. The Nuxe spa is instantly relaxing but the best bit – free tea and coffee. All. Day. Long. Bring the brood for a Pre-Christmas break starting 14 December 2019. Seven nights half board with Gatwick flights and transfers starts at £1,289pp.
Piolets Park & Spa, Soldeu
When you stay at the Piolets, the main lift - serving Andorra’s best terrain - is just 125 metres away. Gearing you up to ride it, the hotel puts on morning yoga for families, as well as kids-welcome spa time later on. Youngsters love the paddling pool, and you can book them relaxation massages to all-but guarantee a good night’s sleep... If parents want to skip the spa and continue exploring the slopes, no problem – just sign them up for the on-site afternoon childcare and off you slide. The soft play area with its ball pond always goes down a storm, as does the food side of things - dining here is buffet style, suiting all levels of appetite. When everyone’s chomped to their heart’s content, it’s off to bed in suites sleeping families of up to 4. A pre-Christmas break departing December 15 2019 starts at £601pp for seven nights - Gatwick flights, transfers and half board included.
Alpenpark, Seefeld
Tucked in a quiet corner of Seefeld, Alpenpark’s awesome for all generations. The kids club cares for offspring aged 6 months and up and there’s a cracking playroom complete with a slide, climbing wall and soft play. Children have their own dining room, where they can tuck into well-thought-out meals under expert supervision – freeing you up for more civilised dining later on. The Family Spa offers kids treatments (think: princess nails, chocolate massages…) and there’s a dedicated pool area with not one, not two, three waterslides. Teens aren’t forgotten; they have their own club with cinema and disco evenings as well as an on-site bowling alley. Come for Christmas, when Seefeld looks straight from a greetings card. Departing on the 21 December 2019, prices begin at £1,129pp for seven-nights full board (including a Christmas gala dinner) Gatwick flights, transfers and a 2 for 1 snowboard hire deal.
Hotel Tyrol, Selva
Riding the Dolomites with your relatives is hard to beat and staying in Selva’s Hotel Tyrol is the icing on the cake. This place has a games room each for tots and teens and a wellness program that kits kids out in mini robes and slippers and provides sweet treatments like a milk and honey bath or chocolate massage. After they’ve wolfed down delights from the children’s menu (the kitchen caters to allergies and intolerances admirably), it’s up the wooden hill to your connecting rooms, where they can collapse for the night, freeing you to enjoy a bottle from the wine cellar... Staff can provide pretty much anything you need – from potties to pushchairs – just ask. Don’t think we’ve forgotten the snowboarding side of things: you’re 20 seconds from the nearest lift so nipping back for snacks/naps/change of clothes couldn’t be easier. Set off on March 23 2020 for a seven-night stay from £1,316pp, Gatwick flights, transfers and half board included.
