Turoa

Turoa is now joined with Whakapapa creating, at 4,500 acres, New Zealands largest resort. Tutoa  is covered with gullies, bowls, walls and wide slopes: the type of terrain only found on a volcano. This can vary incredibly from year to year, depending on the amount of snow cover. Because the area is so large and conditions can vary so much, it is worthwhile spending time in the bars down in Okakune, meeting the locals first hand and finding out where the current best spots are. The runs marked on the trail map are really of little more than aesthetics value. There are countless possible routes and like Whakapapa on the other side of the mountain, the fun of riding at Turoa is finding them.
