Coronet Peak Snowboarder / Coronet Peak
Located amid the southern alps and lakes of the South Island, Cornet Peak, on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, is only 30 minutes from the hustle and bustle of the town to Queenstown. Cornet which has a shared lift pass with the neighbouring resort of The Remarkables, has terrain suitable for snowboarders of all abilities, with slopes that offer a combination of wide open pistes and well groomed trails that drop to a vert of 428 metres. The ride area is serviced by six well set out lifts and to ensure good snow cover at all times, Cornet has a multi-million dollar snowmaking system that covers from top to bottom. The low altitude here gives Cornet natural, undulating terrain with great spines and gullies for some of the best-riding available. The Cornet Express high-speed, detachable quad takes you to the summit where you gain access to some hot back bowls so loved by hard core freeriders. Check they are open though, because if you catch an avalanche and survive, it could be a long hike out when there is powder. However, it is worth it and make sure you ride the Rocky Gully T-bar.
