Selva Val Gardena (or confusingly also known as Wolkenstein) , is probably the largest with the most number of hotels, but the least attractive. You’ll find plenty of hotels to suit all budgets, the Piccolo Hotel is a nice 4* hotel on the edge of town. Selva is the liveliest of the villages in terms of nightlife. Head to the La Stua for some good apres ski, the place does get rammed as soon as the slopes are closed, and it’s a similar story at the Luislkeller which is on the main strip (Str. Meisules), there’s a few more bars along this road but nothing too exciting, however if you’re busting for a guinness, then the Goalies Pub is open until 2am.
Santa Cristina. This village ups the looks front, but facilities stretch along the main road the goes between Ortisei and Selva and there’s not a great deal going on. Towards the Selva end of the village on the roundabout you’ll find Hotel Maciaconi does decent pizzas and has a nice bar, and a but further on and at the bottom of the famous Saslong piste you’ll find the Apreski Snowbar, if you love it cheesy, this is where you need to head for some good old apres ski.
Ortisei. As classy villages go, Ortisei is right up there. There’s a decent array of small shops along the main pedestrian streets, which make a lovely evening stroll, and a good number of good restaurants. Ristorante Tubladel is highly recommended, they serve steaks that you cook on a hot plate down to more inexpensive ribs which judging by the size of them must come from a dinosaur.
If you’re after crazy nightlife then Ortisei isn’t really the place to base yourself. For a bit of apres ski, you can head to the umbrella style Siglu Bar, but the other bars in the area are more for a pose and a people watch, than anything remotely heading towards a session.
