Passo Tonale

Tonale is a high-altitude resort perched in a wide, open expanse that is both snow-sure and sunny. Without a doubt, this a cool place to visit, a resort that is both old and new in terms of the village and its development. The resort is constantly improving and subsequently becoming more and more popular. However that popularity isn’t a problem, as lift queues are almost non-existent and the pistes never become cluttered up, leaving lots of wide open runs free of crowds.

During the winter months, Tonale gets a good share of snow and should the real stuff be lacking, then the resort's snowmaking facilities can cover over 60% of the marked pistes. If you want to do some summer riding, then this place can also accommodate you with good riding possible up on the nearby Presena Glacier in the summer months. You can reach the glacier from Tonale by cablecar, although in winter the glacier only opens if the snow on the lower areas is lacking.

Tonale offers great intermediate and beginner-level riding, with options to ride a long tree-lined run between Tonale and the nearby resort of Ponte di Legno. Note that you can ride to Ponte di Legno, but you have to get a ski bus back. Both resorts share a joint lift pass, which is a modern hands-free system whereby you pass through the lift gates with your pass still in your pocket. The lifts themselves are equally split between chair and draglifts, along with a cablecar. All the lifts link well and even novices can get around without having to use too many draglifts.
