Valmorel Mountain / Pierre Jaques Valmorel
As a relatively new resort, established around 25 years ago, Valmorel has grown into a family/group ski centre. This is by no means an adventurous place - indeed it’s best described as dull. Nevertheless, it is a well-planned and well set-out resort, with slopes that are ideal for simple piste-riding. On its own, Valmorel boasts 50 or so pistes which are not always that well maintained. When linked to St Francois Longchamp, the rideable terrain increases to a respectable 100 miles (152km) spread over 3600 hectates. Getting around the slopes should pose no problem, although you might have to queue for lengthy periods of time with skiers who sing nursery rhymes to their offspring.
Valmorel is not noted for having the best snow record, especially on the lower slopes. Still, once you do get away from the idiots in the lift lines and hit the slopes, things only get better. Keep an eye open for ski classes cluttering up certain slopes, however.
