St Lary / Photo: St Lary
The main village of Saint Lary lies at 630 metres in the Aure Valley; above here there are two small villages, Saint Lary La Cabane at 1,600 metres and Saint Lary Pla D'Adret at 1,700 metres. All three are connected by a series of lifts, with the upper villages reachable by road or from Saint Lary by the cablecar which takes you to the slopes.
This relatively small resort lies in the French Pyrenees and goes back to the 1950's. If you think that French ski resorts are massive purpose-built shams, Saint Lary will make you think again. What you get is a resort that is very snowboard-friendly, with good terrain that can be tackled by novices and riders with only a few days under their belts.
It's also a popular resort, however, which results in a number of long lift queues, especially at weekends.
