St Jean d'Aulps is a small, french village, around 5 miles north of Morzine. Although it's quite separate from the other resorts, St Jean is a bonafied member of the whole Portes Du Soleil area.
The ski area itself is around 2.5 km from the centre of Saint-Jean's town. To travel between the two you can either use a car, or the free shuttle bus, which runs all season long. As well as the accommodation in the village, there's also accommodation available around the base of the slopes. If you take this option you've got direct access to the slopes, but you'll need to take the bus into town.
St Jean isn't suited to the snowboarder wanting to be in the heart of the Portes Du Soleil - with the best terrain at the top of their agenda. Simply put, you'd be better off picking somewhere closer to the action. However, for families or those looking for somewhere a little quieter, less resort-like, Saint-Jean may fit the bill. Uncrowded slopes, quaint french village and there's the rest of the Portes Du Soleil if you want it...
