Risoul is located between Gap and Briancon, and combines with the neighbouring resort Vars to offer 180km of terrain; from easy slopes for beginners, to double black diamond runs for extreme freaks, all designed clearly with the young in mind. Risoul sits high in a big wooded bowl surrounded by peaks on three sides, with the compact modern village offering some opportunities to board straight to your door. The lifts fan out in all directions from the base and most runs end back at the same point, making this one of the easiest resorts to navigate.
The lower slopes cut through a larch tree forest, and off the slopes the trees are nicely spaced out, affording some good tree shredding. Higher up, the trees clear and that’s where you’ll find the big wide slopes and big open powder fields.
From the top of Razi peak you can board into the resort of Vars, which is included in your lift pass. Vars offers a different experience with very few trees on its main slopes, which again funnel down to the main village of Vars les Claux.
