Salla is located in the Artic Circle and gets buckets loads of snow as well as regular appearances from the Northern Lights. It's a small resort but you will ride uncrowded slopes all week and be able to find fresh powder between the lifts

Salla promotes itself as been ‘In the middle of nowhere’ and located just 90 minutes from Kuusamo airport you can quickly get here and head off the beaten track.Whilst it is not difficult to get to Salla it's location in the Arctic Circle provides something very different than your average snowboard destination. One thing you will notice whilst getting here is how much snow there is, the beauty of the landscape also draws you in as you pass endless frozen lakes and snow capped forests before eventually arriving at the small town of Salla. The slopes are prepared throughout November which means whilst many alpine resorts are still praying for their Christmas snow you will be riding fresh lines here. The season also runs till late April so you are guaranteed good conditions even in the Spring.
Although Salla is not the biggest of resorts the 9 runs here will provide good fun for a few days. The slopes are wide and empty and like many Finnish resorts you will never queue for long to get up the mountain. Freeriders visiting Salla also have the chance of some easy and relatively safe lines in deep powder. The daylight last till 4 or 5pm here in the early winter, however they also turn on the floodlights on an evening so you can ride for a little longer especially in the early part of the year. Off the pistes Salla capitalizes on it's Artic Circle location by offering some amazing activities including Snowmobiling, Husky Rides and the Reindeer Safari. Mix this in with a few days boarding and the chance to see the Northern lights and you can see why people head here to experience something unique.
