Wildschonau Valley Vista / Wildschonau
The Wildschonau Valley, which is located in the Kitzbuheler Alps, is home to a number of tiny and traditional Austrian resorts. Niederau, Oberau, Thierbach and Auffach may all seem on the surface to be to small to bother with, but first impressions are often deceptive. Okay none of the resorts that make up this part of the Tirol are extensive or in any way adventurous. However, what this collection of novice and intermediate mountain retreats do provide, is an area that's relaxed, void of any crowds, very laid back and with out any of the hustle and bustle of the bigger and more popular destinations favoured by the tour operators and ski crowds. This collection of resorts would be idea for a family group on a weeks holiday, but would not appeal to hard-core riders in terms of the mountain or larger louts looking for an action packed resort bustling with night life. The majority of visitors here are either cross country skiers or middle aged downhill skiers. But with most things, there’s always something that will appeal to most and although there are only a couple of black graded runs, proficient riders will be able to take advantage of the reds that are open planed and free of crowds. No one queues up long around here, and although none of the resorts link up on the slopes, getting around them is easy.
