Introduction
Nordkette is a small but extreme resort perched high above Innsbruck and accessed via the rickety old Hungerburgbahn funicular from the edge of town. Changes are planned to replace this with a gondola in the centre of town in the future. The 6 pistes offer some serious steeps with Innsbruck looming underneath you, and off-piste there’s some faces that look like they should belong in Alaska, so best leave it to the locals like Flo Örley, who did the stunts in Triple X, to ride those ridges. You’ll need to be quick to get any fresh lines, but there is some very good freeriding and 70% gradients available if you know where to head, but make sure you go with someone who knows what they’re doing.
