Super sunny resort in the less boozy part of Austria. Lots of good pistes and fun terrain but limited in terms of hardcore freeriding.

Nassfeld is split into 2 main villages with a sprinkling of other tiny areas. The bigger of the villages is Tröpolach right at the foot of the slopes, and the other option is Sonnenalpe at 1500m. Tröpolach is dominated by the Cube (www.cube-nassfeld.at) which can sleep almost 500 people with mainly cheap but uber cool dorm rooms. The place has a huge nightclub, a 24hr bar and breakfast doesn’t finish until 3pm, so that should give you a good idea of what to expect.
Up on Sonnenalpe there are really just a few nice hotels with bars in them, but it does boast a 2 star Michelin restaurant headed by Austria TV chef Arnold Pucher located in Hotel Wulfenia (www.arnold-pucher.at). So if food’s your thing and you want to drop 200 euros eating 10 courses of dry ice smoking margaritas, test tubes of melted cheese and olive oil butter then you’re in the right spot, just book well before you even head to Nassfeld for any chance of a seat.
Getting to Nassfeld is a doddle, just fly to Klagenfurt airport and it’s a 1hr drive, alternatively get a flight to Venice in Italy.
