Open pretty much all year, but is often closed due to bad weather. Limited off-piste due to the rocks and crevaces, but perfect for beginners

The Mölltaler Glacier is the highest resort in the Carinthia region and apart from the month of May for a bit of a brush up, it’s open for the entire year.
It is accessed via a funicular railway from the edge of Innerfragant and in 8 minutes you’re whisked up to the base area. The funicular runs every 30mins on the hour & half hour, except when it’s very busy when its every 15mins, and the return journey runs at the same time.
It’s pretty exposed up there so save yourself a wasted journey and check the website or ask the owners where you’re staying before heading up there as it can often be closed due to bad weather.
From the base area a gondola and an express chair take you up to 3122m in under 30minutes, and gives you access to 88km of pistes. Some of the runs such as 7 & 9 have been overgraded, and run 9 whilst not flat, is hardly going to get your hair blowing. The black runs can be good fun; run 4 is often left moguled, and run 10 can get icy but that’s pretty rare for the runs at this resort.
The runs serviced by the Gletscher Jet chair at the top of the mountain are a pure joy in good weather. The snow rarely gets icy and there’s always a good snowbase, and the easy blues are up to 1km wide in places and the blacks and reds can be taken at great speed.
Even with good snowfall off-piste options can be limited due to the rocks, and being a glacier you really need to watch out for crevasses in certain areas but having said that on a powder day the ski-routes are good and steep.
There is a small terrain park on the glacier but it’s not always well maintained.
In the summer months (June-October) only the top section above the Panorama restaurant is open, but it’s still a decent area especially compared to many of the other glaciers, especially considering how far east it is.
