Kaunertal Terrain Park /
Kaunertal is a small year-round resort located on the Austria/Italy/Switzerland border in the next valley to the glacier resort of Pitzal. Just outside the village of Feichten you’ll buy your lift passes at the toll-road entrance, then it’s a 40min drive to the resort which is situated at the end of the valley, high above the Gepatsch-Stausee reservoir and is a journey well worth making, especially when the other resorts have closed or have yet to open.
A chairlift runs from the base of the resort to the main resort centre. It’s worth while parking here, rather than make the extra 20 min drive to the main car park so that you can enjoy that final run down. From the main resort centre, t-bars fan out to every side, and it is within this big bowl where you’ll find one of Austria's best terrain park and now 2 halfpipes. The 32km of pistes provide some decent intermediate terrain, but it’s the Freeriders and freestylers who will really appreciate this resort.
The resort is open from September until until mid-July, but it’s from December to May the chairlift runs.
Your lift pass also covers the resort of Fendels which is towards the head of the valley near Prutz, which has 16km of mainly easy runs up to 2300m. They operate night-skiing on 2 pistes on Thursday nights from 19:30-22:30
