On the mountain there are a few eating and drinking options, but the main place is the Sunny Mountain which is located at the top of the gondola which runs from the bottom of the village. There are a number of restaurants and bars in the complex and a good sun terrace, the place also offers free wireless.
The village dates back to the 13th century and its 2600 inhabitants are quiet fellows. It requires a short ski bus to the main village. Once up there, there are a few quiet bars and restaurants and hire shops, which will either please you if you’re trying to escape the carnage of Ischgl or give you cabin fever after a few nights.
There are plenty of places to stay in Kappl with prices suitable for all budgets. You can stay on-slope in the Huisleralm (www.huisleralm.at) which provides hostel style dorm rooms from a bargain 31-36euros a night which includes breakfast and evening meal. It is located at the bottom of the Doppelsesselbahn Gongall chairlift. If you want some 4-star luxury then prices at the Hoellroah (www.hoellroah.at ) can cost from 68euros per person, which is halfboard including a 5-course meal every evening.
Apres ski wise, there are a few bars to take a well-earned beer en-route to the bottom of the lifts. The Schafstall is located towards the bottom of run 4, not long after you go under the tunnel, it is right on the edge of the piste so you can’t miss it. At the base head to the Schupfa in Hotel Auhof.
