Auffach is part of the larger Ski Juwel area it's a good resort for intermediate riders with plenty of wide open pistes. There are also number of easy red pistes which should do wonders for those wanting to step up form blue pistes. The new Gondola links up to Alpbach as well so the terrain has increased dramatically over the last few years.

Auffach Gondola Vista / Michael Whittaker
Auffach and most of the Wildschounau valley have a wide variety of hotels, guest houses and apartments. The nightlife is pretty laid back but there are plenty of places in Auffach to get some traditional Austrian food.
At the bottom of the gondola there is a nice bar that serves hot food and drinks with Sky Sports on the TV. It’s worth a trip here at the end of the day to rest those tired legs. If you fancy doing something a little different you can try tobogganing every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 8pm from the Schatzberg lift in Auffach. The floodlit runs run down to to bottom of the Gondola and to get to them you can take the Slow Train to the mid station. After a fortifying Glühwein you toboggan down the 5 km long run back to the village kitted out with a specially lit toboggan. Prices should be cheaper with a wildschonau card so have this with you at all times.
There are some good restaurants around town and at the top of the gondola. If it’s sunny you can sit out and take in the impressive views while enjoying some nice food. Prices are generally reasonable and it is possible to get a mixture of fast food and typical Austrian food. Specialties include dumplings and Goulash. It's mainly hearty and stodgy food that provides the perfect end to a day on the slopes.
Auffach has a variety of slopeside accommodation and in the town you will find the normal mixture of Hotels, Apartments and and Chalets. Things are not as lively on an evening here as in Niederau so it may work best for those looking for a quieter week with more time for riding. There is a local spa in Oberau where those in self catering can get supplies. This is 10 minutes away and is also worth a trip on an evening if you want to see a beautiful Austrian Hamlet.
Auffach is fairly laid back when it comes to it’s nightlife and things end a lot earlier here than in Niederau so it may be worth looking there if your prefer things a little more lively. On the slopes you can get a drink at the mid station from an umbrella bar prices are quite reasonable as well. At the top of the gondola as well there are a number of restaurants where you can relax for an hour or so.
Nowhere in the Wildschonau valley is too crazy but there is fun to be had. The Gruttn Stadl Bar has live music every Thursday. Cafe Martin is popular with the instructors and if you go on Thursday from 5pm there is live music.
