Auffach is part of the larger Ski Juwel area it's a good resort for intermediate riders with plenty of wide open pistes. There are also number of easy red pistes which should do wonders for those wanting to step up form blue pistes. The new Gondola links up to Alpbach as well so the terrain has increased dramatically over the last few years.

Auffach is the largest ski area in the Wildschonau valley and is the place to go if you want to avoid the drag lifts that are common in other areas in the valley, Freestylers will also love it here as there is a dedicated board park. When arriving in the village you will find a pretty centre with a variety of restaurants, hotels and guest houses. If your taking a ski bus here you will be dropped off next to the main gondola. The free buses run regularly from Wurlg, Niederau and Oberau so getting here is easy.
Auffach Town

Once you are here it’s worth noting there is nothing to ride along the valley floor like in Niederau so get on the Gondola as this is the only way up the mountain. From here you can depart at the mid station where beginners will like the magic carpet, t-bars and poma lifts that serve easy blue runs or you can carry on to 1903 Metres where the pistes open up to provide a variety of wide red runs that are of varying difficulty.
Auffach Mid Station

On the mountain there are a few places to stop including an umbrella bar at the mid station and at the top there are a number of restaurants to explore. If you are heading to the top make sure you at least take a look at the new Gondola over to Alpbach as well as the views from here are stunning. The addition of this Gondola has really increased the scope of the area putting Auffach and the Ski Welt firmly on the map as a great area to head too.

Auffach has a variety of places to stay with from self catering aprtments, guest houses and top class hotels. However if you want to go down the package holiday route with better nightlife you might be better staying in Niederau and using the free ski bus to get around the valley. Crystal Ski (crystalski.co.uk; 0871 231 2256) offers a week’s half board at the four-star Hotel Harfenwirt in Niederau, Austrian Tirol, from £529 per person including flights from Gatwick (direct flights also available from all major UK airports at a supplement starting at £20) and transfers departing on 10 January 2015.
