Mt Buller Snowboarder / Mt Buller
Freeriders who like their terrain with a side serve of steeps, should head for the summit and try to tame Fannys Finnish or Fast One which are Bullers most notorious black diamond runs. If you have conquered Fannys then it must be time to head backcountry with the best reached by hiking out past the fire hut on the summit to a place known as Buller Bowls. The bowl is serious terrain that will avalanche if given the chance, so it is best to check conditions with the ski patrol. If tree runs take your fancy then slip off the side of Standard and make tracks between the snowguns. If you are early it is possible to get fresh tracks in the powder stashes in this area.
Freestylers have an abundance of natural hits which makes the trails resemble a spread out fun-park. There’s a boardercross and halfpipe located at skyline. Bluff View has a beginners park, intermediates head to Baldy park and pro’s feast at the Summit Terrain Park
The runs can often be a bit rutted, but with some good early morning grooming, speed freaks can cut some nice fast tracks down a number of well spaced trails to suit all levels.
Beginners will manage perfectly well at Buller, with a good selection of easy slopes that are crowd free on weekdays but crowd drenched on weekends. Rookies should go and get a lesson from one of the professional instructors at the ski school, which also offers a 'Discover Boarding' lift ticket.
